Here is another design commissioned by the AMF Boat Co. in Tauranga, NZ. The philosophy behind this trawler-style motoryacht was to achieve a comfortable and seaworthy coastal (or liveaboard) cruiser which would be ruggedly built from aluminium alloy and left unpainted to reduce maintenance.

Construction is currently underway at AMF Boat Co. in Tauranga. As with all their vessels the hull and superstructure will be of marine-grade aluminium alloy with scantlings chosen in excess of classification society rule requirements. The build quality is of the highest standard in keeping with the legendary reputation of this company. Fabrication of the structure is proving to be significantly simplified with our typical package of precut CNC parts which includes all internal framing and shell plating.

A feature of this vessel is the huge saloon and galley area, at least equal to any monohull vessel with the same overall length. This has been achieved partly by carrying the cabin sides right out to the hull, omitting the narrow and uncomfortable side decks found on vessels of this type, and also seemingly at the expense of aft deck space. No good for fishing I hear you mutter! As shown in the accompanying renderings our secret weapon is a hydraulically-operated pivoting transom door which extends the aft deck area by over 2 m². Access to the water has never been simpler!

This boat has a dedicated pilothouse with proper visibility from the helm. The helm station is not simply an afterthought or tucked away in the corner of the main saloon as is found on the majority of today’s cruisers. The twin sleeping cabins and bathroom with toilet and shower are conventionally located forward beneath the pilothouse, cabin trunk and foredeck. These cabins are accessed via a central passageway passing under the pilothouse and thus not interfering with the running of the ship.

We believe that this workmanlike, efficient and comfortable vessel will appeal to those who have become jaded by the repetitious styling prevalent on the express motor cruisers and sportfishers which are currently available.
