CNC Cutting Files

Complete Metal Ship Construction Package and/or CNC Cut File Services

Examples of plate nesting.

We currently offer complete hull and superstructure construction packages to metal yacht and shipbuilders based on our extensive experience in this field. In other words, we will take the drawings from your naval architect/designer and produce the accurate construction information (cutfiles) necessary to fabricate the vessel structure. Successful projects for which we have recently provided this type of service include:
21.3m steel Lavranos Long Range Motor Yacht MY “ANNI” (Nov 1998)

50.5m steel / alloy Overing Motor Yacht (1999/2000)

50.0m alloy Motor Yacht, including structural design to ABS MPY Rules

31.4m alloy Frer’s Sloop, including structural design to Lloyd’s SSC Rules (2001)

10.5m alloy Lavranos Powercat (Jan 2002)

16.5m alloy Lavranos Cruising Sloop (Feb 2002)

Each construction package typically consists of (but is not limited to):

Material quantity summary (material take-off), per construction module, if required.
Frame assembly drawing for each transverse frame/floor and ditto for longitudinal structure (see typical frame assembly).
Plate nestings (cutfiles) of all parts, grouped by plate thicknesses, on disc in either DXF or DWG format. Parts are all numbered/tagged in a logical, systematic way and marked with stations, centrelines, buttocks and waterlines as required.
Structural weight analysis with final CG in all directions. Important and often neglected!

We commonly begin the task by discussing the construction methodology with the yard i.e. is the boat to be built in modular fashion, are any sections to be built upside down, extrusion availability and typical yard details preferred etc. Next we analyse the naval architect’s drawings in detail while producing the framing components to ensure a proper fit between mating parts. Any problems or errors are dealt with in as tactful a manner as possible. We have collaborated with naval architects in the U.S.A., Argentina and the U.K. and have built up a useful working relationship in all cases. Neither the difference in time nor distance has proved to be a handicap thus far. Furthermore we are mindful of the tight schedules imposed by demanding clients and therefore regard flexibility, practicality and the ability to solve problems as essential elements in getting each project underway and completed effectively.

Alternatively, and more efficiently from a cutfile point of view, we will design the complete vessel structure from concept to classification society approval level should this be required. To date we have completed the structural design for vessels ranging from a 12m Mussel Harvesting Powercat to a 47.5m Superyacht and in accordance with the differing requirements of Lloyds, ABS and BV.
